Ideas

  • We need to create a BLOG platform that allows individuals to share ideas and best practices across campuses.  We could have many categories for users to share information, including links to non-profit organizations, online trainings, best practices for everything from Alternative Spring Breaks and First Year Trips to community organizing strategies.

Examples

  • Campus Service-Focused Blogs
  • From Campus Surveys of Social Media Usage
    • From staff
      • Last year's Fullbright Scholar used blog to communicate her experiences in Thailand. Will continue blog with new Fullbrights.. May use blog for some summer service Bonner experiences
      • We formerly used a blog to post upcoming events and news, but faced institutional policy hurdles before the effort bore fruit.
      • Bonner Scholars use blogs to reflect on their service efforts and the effect of their efforts on the community as well as their own lives. Some abroad Bonners use them for reflection.
      • I do believe that our Admissions office actually hires student bloggers, but I'm not sure if/how that would work for us?
      • The Office of Technology has a blog where recent accomplishments are published as well as a photo gallery.
      • Bonner Reflections, Current Events in the media and community (locally and globally). Bonners will share their thoughts.
      • We have experimented with using blogs to list upcoming service opportunities sponsored by Bonner and the College as well as to provide a space for students to post volunteer opportunities that they learn of as well.
      • We have not used a blog specifically for the Hartman House, but the Student Services division did have a blog on the DPU website for a semester or so.
    • From students:
      • It was to get our views on services that we did in the community and about things that were going on in our community. It was very helpful because we learned one anothers views.
      • Used to share what events are happening on and off campus, which enables other students to get involved.
      • I am currently blogging my experience about my study abroad experience but before this I only blogged one other time.
      • It is very good for reflection about experiences and learning and discussing other peoples experiences.
      • To chat with friends and members of other organization opposed to having physical meetings.
      • We used this our first year to answer questions relating to issues and service and how things could be changed.
      • One of my classes was a technology and film production class. We used our blogs to update our professor on the progress of our film projects throughout the week.
      • My freshman year, my class was asked to participate in blogging about particular issues of interest, such as homelessness, hunger, etc.
      • Weekly reflections are blogged by supervisor and students comment a reply. i personally never use this.
      • Used it for class once to keep update about events happening during a simulation.
      • Service Blog - inform student body of service projects on campus and in community
