Ideas

  • Platforms
    • Google Groups provides a convenient email discussion list and web page sharing
    • Yahoo Groups is also popular
    • Campus Listserv option: most campus IT departments offer a listserv capability for campus groups
  •

Examples

  • From Serve 2.0 Social Media Survey:

    • We have internal communications via email to reach the campus community. We have also created a service-l, which student subscribe to. They will then receive email notifications about anything related to service coming up. We have also categorized people's emails who subscribe by issue area, so that we can have a "target group" of students interested in specific issues, and then those student would receive emails related directly to the issues they are interested in. Freshmen also fill out a form with the issues they are interested in, which we can use as a database to inform students about opportunities in these particular areas. having the target group helps assure (to some degree) that the message we are getting out actually reaches people who have some interest. This systems still needs work.

    • It's not exactly a social networking site, but we use Evite often to send out cards and invitations.

    • We use an email feature called "Weekend Warriors" to distribute information to our campus on Thursdays prior to the weekend. It lists all campus "happening" and we are getting better at including service opportunities through that online tool.

    • We send out service newsletters via mass email.

    • Centre College Service Newsletter Website - inform student body of service sites in community
