Issue Focus Area(s)

College Access

Brief Overview

Through this grant, we will establish a Civic Engagement Center (CEC) infrastructure to support web-based technologies and social media tools that enhance volunteer engagement, training, networking, and collaboration.  College access will serve as the issue anchoring initial development of CEC social networking strategies.  These strategies will eventually be applied or adapted to other issue areas.  We chose college access because Macalester’s Bonner program addresses access centrally and because our partnerships in this area are growing and deepening.  Through the Serve 2.0 initiative, we will develop web 2.0 infrastructure to serve the CEC and the Bonner program, and an existing, on-campus college access initiative called Opportunities Abound.  Our community partner in this initiative is Breakthrough Saint Paul, particularly their "Breakthrough Anywhere Initiative".
