Ideas
- Photos can help make the work of campuses more real. For example, most people in our network have not seen each others campus offices or service centers. Yet this type of information—how space is organized, what is on the walls, etc.—is actually helpful and of interest to our campus programs. Some staff and students have even asked for examples for how to transform their centers to promote a 'culture of service.' Yet outstanding practices, like bookshelves and resource areas, work space for students, bulletin boards that list relevant service-learning and academic coursework, and other practices are actually not happening across the board, in part because folks have not 'seen' them.
- In addition, photos can be a part of training and knowledge development, helping students and other volunteers to 'read' the built environment and place around them. For example, photos can be used as part of community asset mapping and campus asset mapping, helping volunteers/leaders to strategize about resources to tap (individuals, organizations, businesses) and what are the gaps and challenges.
